Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows in places it should not, such as around the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder or bowel. This tissue still responds to hormones each cycle, which can lead to inflammation, pain, scarring and adhesions.
Symptoms can look different for everyone, but may include:
• Pain with periods, sex, ovulation or bowel movements
• Pelvic, back or leg pain
• Heavy or irregular bleeding
• Fatigue and bloating
• Difficulty becoming pregnant
• Pain with urination or bowel movements
• Symptoms that stop you doing the things you love
There is currently no cure, but there are ways to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Talking about your symptoms early with a GP can make a difference.
How we can help
• Listen and take your pain seriously
• Talk through your symptoms and concerns
• Discuss options for management and referral if needed
You do not have to have endometriosis to make a difference.
Educate yourself.
Understanding the condition and its symptoms could help someone you love.
