Reflection on Men’s Health Week: Raising Awareness of Incontinence

For Men's Health Week, we shone a light on a health issue that often goes unspoken.

More than 2.4 million Australian men and boys are living with urinary and bowel incontinence. Yet many delay seeking help because of embarrassment, stigma, or the belief that it's just a normal part of getting older.

The reality is that bladder leakage can affect men of all ages and can occur for many reasons, including prostate conditions, prostate cancer treatment, pelvic floor weakness, neurological conditions, chronic coughing, high impact exercise, and ageing.

What many people don't realise is that there are treatment options available.

Depending on the cause, management may include pelvic floor physiotherapy, lifestyle changes, medical treatment, or technologies such as the Emsella Chair, which helps strengthen the pelvic floor muscles that support bladder control.

At Next Practice Prahran, our team can help assess bladder and pelvic floor concerns, identify possible causes, and discuss treatment options tailored to your individual needs. We also offer Emsella treatment onsite, a non invasive treatment designed to strengthen the pelvic floor and support improved bladder control.

Urinary leakage may be common, but it isn't something you simply have to live with.

If bladder symptoms are affecting your confidence, exercise, work, sleep, travel, or daily life, it's worth having a conversation with your GP.

Because Men's Health Week isn't just about the health issues people can see. It's also about the ones many men quietly manage every day.

If you've been putting off seeking help, we hope Men's Health Week encouraged you to start the conversation.
