How we can support you
We know that reaching out can sometimes feel like the hardest step. Our approach is warm, respectful and tailored to you.
Your doctor can support you with:
A Mental Health Care Plan is a supportive pathway designed to help you access the care you need, in a way that feels structured, considered and personal to you.
If you have been feeling overwhelmed, low, anxious or simply not quite like yourself, this can be a gentle first step in understanding what is going on and putting the right supports in place.
What to expect
Your appointment is a safe and confidential space to talk openly about what you have been experiencing.
Your doctor will take the time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and work with you to build a plan that feels right for you. There is no pressure to share everything at once, you can go at your own pace. Please feel reassured that our doctors support patients with mental health concerns every day.
For this reason, we recommend booking a longer appointment, as these conversations deserve time and care. In some cases, your plan may be completed over more than one visit.
What the plan includes
If your doctor feels that additional support would be helpful, they may create a Mental Health Care Plan with you. This may include:
Accessing psychology support
With a Mental Health Care Plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for psychology sessions.
Medicare currently contributes $141.85 per session, with most psychologists charging an additional out of pocket fee (depending on the provider).
Finding the right psychologist
Finding someone you feel comfortable with is an important part of your care.
Your doctor can connect you with a trusted psychologist from our local network (we have a wonderful selection of psychologists that we work closely with), and will always aim to refer you to someone who feels like a good fit for you.
A supported and ongoing process
A Mental Health Care Plan is not just a referral, it is part of an ongoing, supported approach to your wellbeing.
Your GP will continue to check in with you, review your progress, and adjust your care as needed. Support can evolve over time, and your plan can too.
We provide supportive, ongoing care for patients with ADHD, with a focus on clarity, continuity and personalised care. For some, this may begin with a conversation around symptoms and whether further assessment could be helpful. For others, it may involve ongoing support following a diagnosis.
Our doctors can assist with:
Understanding the process:
1. Starting the conversation
Your journey begins with a longer appointment with your GP. This is an opportunity to talk through your experiences, concerns and history in a relaxed, judgement free space.
Your doctor will help determine whether a specialist assessment may be helpful.
2. Referral for assessment
If appropriate, your GP will refer you to a psychiatrist for a comprehensive ADHD assessment.
This assessment looks at your symptoms, how they impact your daily life, and your broader medical and mental health history. It is designed to ensure you receive the most accurate diagnosis and support. Not everyone will receive an ADHD diagnosis, and sometimes other factors may be identified. Your care will always be guided by what is most appropriate for you.
3. After your assessment
Following your assessment, the psychiatrist will provide your GP with a detailed report.
This may include:
Your GP will then talk this through with you and help you understand your next steps.
4. Medication and ongoing care
If medication is recommended, your GP will guide you through the process. ADHD medications are carefully regulated, so this includes:
Finding the right medication and dose can take time, and your GP will work closely with you throughout this process.
Ongoing support
ADHD care is not just about diagnosis or medication, it is about understanding how you function best and supporting you in day to day life. Your GP will remain an ongoing part of your care, working alongside your psychiatrist and any other supports to ensure your treatment feels consistent, considered and tailored to you.
